Guidelines for Quarries April 2004
intended to help with the
implementation of Section 261 of the Planning & Development Act, 2000, which
is commenced with effect from 28 April 2004. Under Section 261 all quarries,
except those which obtained planning permission in the last 5 years, must
register with the planning authority within a year of the section being
commenced. Quarries which had not previously obtained planning permission may
also be required to undergo environmental impact assessment and to apply for
planning permission where there area is greater than 5 ha or where they are
situated in designated sensitive areas where their continued operation would
have significant effect on the environment
